PENGUIN BLOOM - A review
A story of Rising Again against all odds!
The movie is a depiction of a real life incident which happened to
SamBlooms, a passionate surfer and a lover of the sea. The movie begins when Sam is in a horrendous accident when she was vacationing in Thailand with her husband Cam and her 3 boys! The saga begins with Noah her eldest, feeling guilty for the accident as he was the one who invited his mother to the roof of the building where she tripped, fell and broke her back making herself a spastic person for the rest of her life.Noah's guilt stricken narrative of how the accident could have happened to someone else and not his mother touched the deepest chords within me as my heart went out to him!
During the same time, the children welcome a broken wild bird who lost her ability to fly into their home while Sam is yet to come into terms with her new way of living! Noah names the bird Penguin as she is black n white.
Penguin at first creates havoc and chaos at home when left alone with Sam during the day. Penguin and Sam are one and the same as they are both facing the toughest period in their lives......losing their ability to be themselves! The portrayal of their parallel lives throughout the movie is nothing but excellence. Its amazing to see how the script slowly turns to become the crusader for the unlikely hero, Penguin, the bird!
Ironically, its Penguin who makes Sam realize that she can feel better and even try to be someone else other than what she was! This made her try Kayaking which helps her to be reborn again with hope!
Sam's choice to ignore Noah, Cam trying hard to be the best version of himself, Sam's mother's emotional indulgence in her daughters condition as she is not able to bring back her daughter to the original life, Sam's denial of friends and family have been crafted into the movie so naturally, that you are actually present there at the moment!
Its been long since a movie ever made you feel sad, happy, relieved, liberated, and finally hopeful. Penguin Bloom captured every moment of the characters come alive as experienced by the original Blooms!
Watch the movie in Netflix for some real time profoundity!
Now I want to watch this movie.
