A Second Chance
Do we give 'trust' enough chances?
Trust has always been like the highly overrated movies which all of us are familiar with. A lot of noise is made about being trustworthy and saying that 'Once trust is lost everything is lost'. It is important to remind ourselves that we are human beings capable of making humanely mistakes and breaking one's trust is something really normal like forgetting to thank someone for the help they have done.
The documentary in Netflix 'My Octopus Teacher' is an attempt to sensitize mankind to other living forms of life. This documentary is about the story of a man named Craig who followed the life of an Octopus over 300 days to not just fall in love with her but to find new meaning and direction for his life by learning from her. Watching this documentary you get to realize that our connection and empathy to the other beings is as important as it is to our own. Nearly one third of the documentary focusses on Craig getting acquainted with the Octopus. Looking the whole episode from the perspective of an Octopus, one could imagine the amount of risk and chance the wild creature was willing to give to the human contact. We are talking about an animal which has learned and developed a mechanism by practicing and inheriting the quality to stay unavailable for millions of years!
While trying to get close to the animal and earning her trust which he gains only after a long ordeal, Craig makes a small mistake( dropping the lens of his camera) which becomes a grave move in yearning his trust with the Octopus. He almost loses contact with her for an entire week which he had earned by following her for nearly 100 days!
But, she does give him a second chance.
When such an intelligent wild creature is willing to offer Craig another go in getting close to her, why not us the humans can give our own fellow humans the space and chance to trust someone again?
"He who does not trust enough, will not be trusted" - Lao Tzu. 'My Octopus teacher' has taught me to trust enough and give my loved ones a second chance. How about you?

DeleteWhy and why not? When you have a clear demarcation if this, feel not only second chance but many chances can be given to the loved ones.
